Course Details

Introduction to Christian Ethics – 3 units THE 103

This is an introduction to Christian ethics. The primary focus of this course is to engage in critical analysis of contemporary ethical issues through the lens of Christian ethics. Furthermore, the course will investigate what is ethics in relation to law and religion as well as how it could guide us, without crossing ethical boundaries both in our professions and personal lives, within the context of our relationships with people from all walks of life. The course will take a critical look at some chapters in the bible that bring into focus the practicality and applicability of bible to Christian ethics. The course will also discuss the concepts such as integrity, confidentiality, moral responsibility, legal responsibility and their relationships with ethical standards. The course will employ the use of various case studies to drive home these issues. 

Introduction to Principles & Practices of Mentoring – 3 units THE 108

This course will teach students the importance of mentoring as a key ingredient in developing leaders, especially the kind of leaders who will lead like Jesus. This course will offer a Biblical foundation for mentoring, a challenging look at the heart of a mentor who multiplies leaders, some practical tips to guide a person in their selection of and journey with mentees, and a survey of tools and resources that are available to assist a leader in mentoring.  

Inter – Generational Ministry – 3 units THE 203

The course seeks an understanding of what goes on in the mind of Gen Y population. It focuses heavily on communication strategies and the development of intergenerational engagement skills. This course explores bridging faith across ages, designed to explore the theory, practice, and transformative potential of intergenerational ministry within faith communities. Students will delve into the multifaceted aspects of intergenerational ministry, gaining a deep understanding of its biblical foundations, theological significance, and practical implementation strategies.

Church Planting – 3 units THE 205

Church planting must start with a clear understanding of who Christ is and who His church is. The student will grow in their understanding of who Christ is and why the gospel is essential to church planting. The student will develop a deeper understanding of who the church is and how the church functions. The student will then apply those theological foundations to develop a missiology that glorifies Christ in a specific community.

Bible Doctrine – 3 units THE 207

This course introduces students to theological and biblical thinking and studies. The course focuses on the doctrine of Scripture (Bibliology) as a foundation to basic tenants of Christian Faith. Students are introduced to major categories of systematic theology such as the identity of God, the Trinity, each member of the Godhead and the authority of Scripture. These doctrines include Bibliology – Doctrine of the Bible , Theology – Doctrine of God, Christology – Doctrine of Christ, Pneumatology – Doctrine of the Holy Spirit, Soteriology – Doctrine of Salvation, Ecclesiology – Doctrine of the Church, Angelology – Doctrine of Angels, and Eschatology – Doctrine of Last Things.

Evangelism – 3 units THE 208

This course is an in-depth study of how to lead people to Christ. Special attention will be given to the theology of all aspects of evangelism including the follow-up. Various methods of approach and presentation will be considered. Emphasis will be placed on evangelism and the local church for conservation of results.

Contemporary Moral Issues – 3 units THE 209

This course involves discussions of specific moral problems, issues, controversies, and questions, which ministry leaders will be confronted with in the course of their ministerial responsibilities. Topics will include but not limited to abortion; euthanasia; the death penalty and other punishments; sexual morality; pornography and censorship; discrimination based on race, gender, or sexual orientation; drugs; environmental ethics; the moral status of animals; pacifism, the obligation to obey laws, and social justice, and the meaning of virtue and vice.

Introduction to Pastoral Leadership – 3 units LED 101

This course is designed to address areas of organization and leadership that may be unique to ministry organizations. Emphasis is placed on the diagnosis of the personal spiritual needs of the leader, common mistakes leaders make in ministry, and various truths that leaders need to learn to effectively manage people.

Pastors and church staff members are called to lead the church. Pastoral leadership must be derived from diligent biblical exegesis that lays an accurate theological foundation before the labor of leading Christ’s church can be engaged. This course also provides the basis for evaluating secular leadership models from a biblical perspective. Attention is focused on such topics as conflict management, decision making, long-range planning, motivation, and interpersonal relationships.

Introduction to Preaching (Homiletics) – 3 units THE 104

This is the introductory course on the preparation and delivery of expository sermons. Major emphasis is given to students’ ownership and use of a hermeneutically sound method for developing, supporting, illustrating, and applying a biblical text. Students deliver messages in class.

Ministerial Ethics and Responsibilities – 3 units LED 201

This course will equip ministers with proper knowledge and skills to function most ethically and responsibly in their ministries, churches, and society. It will explore the sources of ministerial ethics, responsibilities, and authority. How ministerial ethics and responsibilities differ from other forms of professions. It will address the role of Holy Spirit and church authorities in ethical practices and decisions. It will also address how to develop ministerial identity and managing ministerial minefields.

Critical Thinking – 3 units PHY 101

This course is an introduction to the systematic study of reasoning, this course will teach the theory and practice of good reasoning. It will provide students with reasoning skills that are useful in whichever discipline and career they may pursue. This course will equip ministry leaders to handle difficult people who come to them with knowledge of philosophy to attack the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Practicum – 6 units THE 220

Practicum will be in person at one of our approved local churches (parishes) in proximity to the student’s geographical location.

Biblical Literature I – OT 101

A comprehensive survey of the Old Testament. Problems relating to its proper understanding are considered.

Biblical Literature II – NT 101

A comprehensive survey of the New Testament. Problems relating to its proper understanding are considered.

Major Prophets – OT 303

Studies the writings of the prophets Isaiah, Jeremiah, Ezekiel, and Daniel, with careful examination of the religious, moral, and civil decline of the Hebrew nation. Pre-requisites: Biblical Literature I and Inductive Bible Study

Psalms – OT 404

A study of Hebrew poetry for literary and spiritual value. Pre-requisites: Biblical Literature I and Inductive Bible Study.

Wisdom Literature – OT 405

An exegesis and exposition of Job, Proverbs, Ecclesiastes, and Song of Solomon. Pre-requisites: Biblical Literature I and Inductive Bible Study.

Writing and Research – EN 135

An introductory course in expression using the written word. The course covers a wide variety of styles and forms needed for successful collegiate, vocational, and personal written communication. The primary purpose of the course is to ensure the student gains a level of competency in the use of written language and research skills.

Introduction to Counselling – PSPM 301

An overview of counselling theory, and reviews and practices skills of being a good helper and counsellor. The integration of theology and psychology is considered and foundational understanding of people and what is needed to promote healing is studied and practiced. Pre-requisite or co-requisite: General Psychology or have “mature student” designation. 

Introduction to Sociology – SO 221

Studies social systems and their development from early times to the present. The course is designed to enhance the student’s appreciation of the various forms of social life as well as show the complex forces at work within the scope of social life.  

Homiletics I – MIN 301

Introduces the student to preaching. Emphasis is placed on the principles and practices underlying the preparation and delivery of effective, creative, dynamic sermons. Topics include discovering and studying the text; the role of the Holy Spirit in sermon preparation and delivery; the importance of voice and body language; various sermon structures; finding and using sermon illustrations; and the spiritual development of the preacher.  

Management in Ministry – MIN 415

This course seeks to develop an understanding of the practicalities of the ‘behind-the-scenes’ administration in the local church and other Christian organizations. Consideration is given to the specific responsibilities of pastors and Christian leaders in such areas as leadership and management basics, managing volunteer teams and paid staff, time and self-management, change management, and financial and operational management. This course also includes an introduction to parliamentary/business meeting procedures. 

Introduction to Missions – MI 100

Is an introductory level course exposing students to the world of contemporary missions. The course is designed for students majoring in intercultural studies or for those who want to increase their understanding of missions and their participation in what God is doing among people of all cultures worldwide. The course considers biblical, historical, cultural, and strategic perspectives of missions.
